How you can help the

Orphaned and Destitute Children of Ethiopia

Haregewoin Teferra, Founder and Director of the Ethiopian Organization, Atetegeb Worku Memorial Orphan Support Association (AWMOSA), provides housing and education to children of all ages, many orphaned because their parents died from AIDS, and many who are also HIV positive.

Haregewoin was the first person in Ethiopia to take in children with AIDS but her work has expanded to help other families in need.  The Story of her work can be found in the recently published book written by Atlanta writer, Melissa Fay Green, There is No Me Within You.

Haregewoin's current project is finding the resources and funds to provide medical and surgical care for a 13-month old little girl who was sexually assaulted when she was 8-months of age.  Thanks to the generosity of Ethiopians Airlines for donating airfare for Haregewoin, the child and her mother and to the medical team at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta for providing free medical services and the wives of the Atlanta Braves for their fundraising efforts and to the many other individuals who have opened their hearts to this mission.  Thanks to all of them, Project Baby E is on its way, but the road to recovery for this child has only begun as more surgeries are expected to be necessary.

You may donate to Project Baby E and/or to Haregewoin Teferra's orphanages through the Illien Foundation for Children, Inc.  This Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation based in Atlanta whose mission is to help abandoned children with shelter, education, and medical needs anywhere in the world.
